Obtaining a Visa

Visas for citizens of most countries are available on arrival at the land borders and at the airport in Kathmandu at a cost of US$25 for 15 days, US$40 for 30 days and US$100 for 90 days multiple entry visa. Tourist visa can be granted for a maximum of 150 days in a visa year. You can pay this in Nepali Rupees, US dollars or Indian rupees. The Nepali Rupee is tied to the Indian Rupee at a rate of 1.6. Note 500 Indian Rupee notes are not accepted. To obtain a visa, you need to bring one passport photo. Nationals from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Palestine, Somalia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe need to arrange a visa before arriving.

TRAVEL

International students seeking to study in Nepal can travel to Nepal by air and road. Since Nepal is a mountainous country, air transport in Nepal is easier and more comfortable than road journey. The Capital Kathmandu is linked by air services to major cities such as New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangkok etc.

Accommodation
Budget for accommodation in Nepal ranges from around $100-150 for a double. Most budget hotels and guesthouses have a wide range of rooms, with all the facilities to make your stay comfortable. Accommodations will often be the cheapest part of your budget in Nepal.
Climate

Nepal has five climatic zones corresponding to the tropical and subtropical zones namely, summer, Monsoon, autumn, winter, and spring.

Money

Currency used in Nepal is the Nepalese rupee, although Indian currency is valid as well. There are banks in Kathmandu, Pokhara and in several other major cities that will allow you to retrieve cash from ATMs or using your credit card.

Safety

Nepal’s cities are safer than most. Even pickpockets are rare. Still, don’t flash cash or make ostentatious displays of wealth, out of respect for the non-materialistic reality of the people.
